The truth about "hypoallergenic"

Dog allergens (Can f 1, Can f 2) come primarily from saliva and skin dander — not fur. Low- shedding breeds release less dander into the air, which is why allergic owners do better with them. But NO breed is allergen-free. Before committing, spend several hours over multiple visits with the specific breed (and ideally the specific dog) before adopting. Some allergic people react to ALL dogs; others can live with Poodles but not Goldens. Test, don't assume.
